India is modernising country. It is growing tremendously in technology ,science and economics as well as health sector. But along with every invention and development there drawbacks as well among them is introduction and use of plastic bags.

Plastic materials are being used since past two decade. It is largely popular and used amongst all. Mainly because they are cheap, easy to use, convenient to use and has variant other uses also. Hence it is manufactured on large scale .Also its manufacturing is simple and source of livelihood for many. But due to this mass growth there is increase in most serious problem “Polution” that india faces today.

Plastic belongs to the category of polymers that consist of large number of molecules joined together. It can be imparted different shapes and sizes according to the requirements and specifications. Material is used in many applications to design products of daily usage. Right from electrical appliances to kid’s toys; plastic has percolated to every nook and corner of the globe. In fact, it is important to the life of people in many ways. Internet, electronic devices and even surgical instruments play a very important role in making life easier for the people. They use plastic as the medium to make the product durable and light weight. Because any other material like steel ,iron ,glass, etc can make a product heavy and also more expensive.

Pipelines are also being constructed with the help of the plastic material to ensure that flow of water to different parts of the world. Moreover, they are also used in the construction of houses for plumbing. Unlike iron, plastic pipes don’t rust when coming in contact with water; therefore they are used in multiple application right from residences to industries. Usage of plastic is instrumental in reducing the problem of deforestation because in past woods were cut for usage in daily life however their usage has become limited over a period of time.

There is no other alternative found of plastics in transportation also. Vehicles use plastic material because it optimizes the usage of power and make them more efficient. Plastics can be found everywhere including seats, interior panel and polycarbonate windows. Any other materials then plastics will increase the price of the materials and also will effect the power consumption.

Plastics are also used in food industry. The food in your refrigerator may be wrapped in PVC cling film, your yogurt is probably in plastic tubs, cheese in plastic wrap and water and milk in blow-molded plastic containers. Because any other containers for example glass containers can not be so handy and will also make a difference on the price of the product.

Plastics are used in many sports to increase athlete efficiency and safety. Plastic helmets—used in many sports, from football to skateboarding—made from molded polycarbonate with interior plastic foam padding reduce head injuries and concussions. Mouth guards reduce injury to the teeth, jaw, and mouth during collisions and plastic foam pads protect players’ shoulders, hips, tailbones, knees, and thighs from injury. Plastic foam pads down and distance markers in football and foam-wrapped goalposts protect players from injury during accidental collisions.

Plastics also increase the efficiency and hygiene of medicine from the surgery suite to the physician’s office. Plastic syringes and tubing are disposable to reduce disease transmission. Plastic intravenous blood, fluid, and medicine bags let health care workers more easily view dosages and replacement needs. Plastic heart valves and knee and hip joints save lives and make patients’ lives more comfortable. Plastic prosthesis help amputees regain function and improve their quality of life. Pill capsules made of plastic ensure correct dosage release in the body over time, which lets patients take fewer pills. Plastic catheters and balloons allow doctors to open blocked blood vessels and insert plastic vessel supports to keep them open and dissolve harmful deposits.

Plastic is light weight, strength, and ability to be molded into any form makes it an ideal packaging material. Rigid plastic keeps fragile items secure and flexible plastic makes easy-to-carry bags. Plastic is used for food and non-food packaging. Foods stay fresh longer when packed in plastic, which reduces waste by reducing the amount of spoiled food that must be discarded and decreases the amount of preservatives needed to keep food fresh. Advances in plastic technology has made plastic packaging more efficient. Other materials like clothes bags cannot be so effective  and also have some disadvantages like it cannot be use during rainy seasons and also it cannot protect the food from water or any other liquid substances.

Plastics are  used to make everything from varnish to stockings, bottles to car parts by way of crisp packets and computers. They have revolutionized the world for the better but are now a major environmental pollutant. The management or the disposal of plastic is the problem not the plastic. The plastics are usually non-biodegradable and remain as waste in the environment for a very long time, thereby posing risks to human health as well as the environment.  The breakdown process is too long for most of the traditional plastics.  Therefore, before the plastics degrade themselves naturally, more plastics will be manufactured, causing increasing plastic pollution around the world .So, the management or the disposal of plastic is the problem not the plastic.  One can easily imagine how difficult it can be for humans to survive without the usage plastic.
